I don’t know about you guys but when I was younger; I was always told if someone hits you to hit them back. It makes perfect sense to defend yourself when you’re being attacked right? In the event you couldn’t defend yourself, you hopefully had that big brother, cousin or friend to step in and help you. All you had to do was get word to them that there was an issue and it was handled. Now that we are adults, we really shouldn’t have to worry about the threat of physical violence anymore. Plus we are living for God so that should really X some things out. My question now is what do you do when people attack your character? Something invisible but when it’s attacked, it can feel like a punch to the face. We have all heard about turning the other cheek and forgiving the offender; but what comes after that? The scripture that comes to my mind is Exodus 14:14 The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. Jesus becomes our big brother in these situations. All we have to do is get word to him that there’s an issue and it’s handled! There’s no need to worry about it or say anything else because big brother is on the way. In this particular situation, the children of Israel had Pharaohs army behind them and the Red Sea in front of them. Moses had to remind the people that God had their back. At the end of the story, God delivered and the thing that was chasing them drowned. So when you feel picked on by different situations in life remember that your big brother went to Calvary, died and rose with all power and will fight for you as long as you hold your peace! Next time you receive bad news or have a negative encounter call on big brother Jesus and know that it’s #handled!
One of my friends loves HGTV and DIYHD. These networks deal with home searches and home restoration projects. She has a particular affinity for the Property Brothers. If you guys are reading this, contact me and we an set up a meeting lol. Now on to the blog. Most of the shows on these two networks deal with improving or totally renovating a home or space within the home. Busted is the only word I can think of that describes the state of some of these houses. Many times after they start working in the house, they find underlying problems like a shifting foundation or bad wiring. Basically, anything you can think of could be wrong with the house. We are often like these houses in a spiritual sense. We go through various Winters, Springs, Summers and Falls that without proper maintenance wear us down. Many times we try to fix things on our own and make a bigger mess of it. God then shows up like the Property Brothers in a sense. We see a worn down house, but God has a master floor plan that we don’t see yet. He comes in with his spiritual hammer and gets to work! He sands over our rough spaces to make them smooth again. He completely remodels our hearts and finishes it by implanting his love which gives us a new beat. Joel 2:25-26 says it best:
And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpiller, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed.
In the end, we come out much stronger and have an increased spiritual value with God. When you feel as though your spiritual house is a wreck, invite God in to be the Master Renovator!
