Weak Devotion

Blog fam! I pray all is well with you since my last post. A couple of days ago I woke up and went about my daily routine: I picked up my phone, unlocked it and checked all of my social media apps. Then I decided to research a particular scripture that I’d been stuck on for weeks. Even though the revelation I got from the scripture was great, what I heard next floored me. I heard the Lord say, “weak devotion”.

Weak is defined as inadequate, poor, feeble or defective. While devotion is defined as love, loyalty or enthusiasm. I was shocked that two words on opposite ends of the spectrum were put together to describe my life as a Christian. I’m a worker in my local church and do my absolute best to live a life pleasing in the sight of God but my devotion has been inadequate.

As believers, we often take God’s goodness for granted. We take God for granted by settling for our Sunday worship experience and failing to keep him first throughout our busy work week. We’ve become accustomed to his grace and mercy because he chooses to be good to us. While we may be workers in ministry, we cannot miss our personal time with God. My morning wasn’t necessarily perfect, but it flowed so much better because I spent time with the Lord. I believe God wants to reveal the mysteries of his word to us but we have to be willing to slow down and seek him. The Bible says in ‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:15:

“Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

We will know and do better by spending that one on one time with God. There are thousands of things going on around us to take our attention. Make the choice to put those things off and spend a few extra minutes in God’s word and in prayer. You can only get out what you put in.

God, we thank you for being mindful of us even when we take it for granted. As we spend more and more time with you reveal yourself to us in new ways. Show us the mysteries of your word and teach us to live a life that’s truly pleasing in your sight. Help us to be patient and discern your voice and cancel out the noise. All these things we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Be blessed blog fam!
‬ ‭

Blog fam! As always, I pray you all have been blessed since my last post. I was listening to a podcast at work and heard an interesting story. This church used to have what they called open prayer requests. Anyone could stand up and ask the church to pray for them or their families. One guy gets up several weeks in a row and asks the congregation to pray that God would clear his mind of the cobwebs of sin. After a few weeks of hearing the same request, a member stood up and suggested that he ask God to kill the spider! I immediately heard the Lord say that we often want to kill the effects of sin but not the source. Like the man in the story, we like temporary fixes. We sweep away the outward manifestations of the sin and appear well groomed and put together while the cause of the sin is slowing spinning another web to entangle us again. It may be hard and down right painful to get to the source of the sin but it is necessary. God can’t heal what we hide and make excuses for. Galatians 5:1 tells us to,

“Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage.”

Jesus has already fought the battle for us! We have to make the decision to stand in the liberty that he attained for us. Once we realize that we are fighting from victory it makes the press that much easier. Jesus did not die and rise for us to battle the same issues over and over. Once we have obtained our freedom, it’s up to us to walk in it! We cannot and should not want to go back to the things that had us bound.

Father, we just want to take time to thank you for the liberty we have in Jesus! We will no longer seek relief from the effects of sin. Instead, we are asking you to kill the source of it. No more temporary fixes. We want to be able to wholly serve you with no limits. Thank you for the revelation received today. Help us to apply the knowledge and seek you for more. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen

Be blessed peeps!

Speak Up

Blog fam! I pray all is well. Being an adult is interesting at times. Yes, it’s fun and full of experiences but there are times when challenges arise. We all have different ways of handling challenges when they come. Some of us like to tackle the issue head on and handle it before it gets out of hand. While others play it by ear and react as things happen. Lastly, some of us pretend that nothing is happening. Each type of person and the tactic they use to deal with there issues has its benefit. My question is what happens when you’ve done everything imaginable but the issue is still there?

It started as a minor bump in the road, now it’s a hill and it’s on it’s way to becoming a mountain of an issue. Being the educated adults we are, we begin to strategize. We look at the issue(s) from different angles. We seek the advice of friends and family yet the issue(s) still lingers. Now we stand before this colossal mountain wondering if we will ever get around it. It seems like the more you try to climb it, the higher it gets. The more you try to walk around it, the wider it gets. At this point frustration is beginning to sink in and you just want to stop! So, the lingering question is what do I do when nothing seems to work?

Mark 11:22-24 says, “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.”

The first step is having faith in God! Your faith is the key to your deliverance. The next thing you have to do is open your mouth and speak to the mountain. We’ve spoke about the mountain to our family, friends and social media followers but now it’s time to talk directly to the mountain. Mostly importantly, do not doubt what you’re declaring. The mountain may seem tall and wide but your faith will cause it to be cast into the sea! The power is in your mouth! The Bible says you shall have whatever you say. It’s up to us to pray, speak and most importantly believe that the mountain will be cast into the sea. I really want to hammer the point in that the height and width of the mountain does not matter when you believe.

God, we come before you with thanksgiving in our hearts. We thank you for the revelation your word brings us! No longer will we attempt to climb or walk around the obstacles that are placed before us. We will speak to those situations and believe your word. We can do this knowing we shall have what we say! Help us to continue to grow in faith. In Jesus’ name; amen! Be blessed peeps!

I Have the Keys!

Blog fam! I pray all is well with all of you. I was watching Marriage Bootcamp celebrity edition the other day and the counselors were helping the individuals deal with deep rooted issues from their pasts. The interesting part about this was that each person was wrapped in chains.

The chains represented the deep seeded resentments, hurts and failures that each person has encountered over their life. They walked around all day under the weight of these chains. Their pinned up emotions now had a physical representation. The chains made the simplest tasks a little more difficult to complete. Some of the individuals just sat to ease the burden. Our issues are like these chains. They impede the simplest of tasks. They literally weigh us down. At the end of the night, they gather to confront their issues.

The counselors begin to talk to them and low key minister to the dark places in their lives. At the beginning, they were given a locket with a picture of themselves as a child in it. After they confronted and overcame the issue, they were told to look behind the picture. They had been walking around all day with the key to their freedom! After that, they unlocked the chains and were free. We have the keys to our freedom! The problem we face is the fear of using the keys. Having those difficult conversations can be uncomfortable but it’s necessary for the freedom we so desperately need. My fiancé, Katrena (this is a shout out lol) often says while ministering that we can really be naked and unashamed before God. We can tell him all of our issues and not worry about him telling anyone else. The Bible says in Hebrews 12:1,

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,

We have seen so many people before us overcome various issues so now it It up to us to let go of the things that are weighting us down. There is so much more ahead of us in this life. Today, I ask you to take some time and reflect. Uncover your issues and take them to the problem solver. God I thank you for the revelation I received. I ask that you come in and reveal to us the areas we need to work on and the things we need to let go of. We realize that you cannot heal what we hide so today we give it all to you. In Jesus’ name, amen! Be blessed peeps!

I Surrender

Blog fam! I pray all is well since my last post. When we think of warfare we think of missiles, tanks, foot soldiers and many other things. The goal of the war is to dismantle the opposition to the point of surrender. We are all familiar with John 10:10,

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.”

‭‭The devil has declared war and your physical and spiritual life is hanging in the balance. His goals are to steal, kill and destroy everything you hold near and dear. Just like the military, he has devised a plan to weaken you to the point where you’ll do anything to release the pressure. For some of us, he has declared war on our finances. It seems like every time you make a step out of the red, you’re pushed back 10 more. Others he has not only attacked you but your families. The level of conflict from your core supporters is at an all time high and there doesn’t seem to be a resolution. While others the attack has been a mental one. You’re losing sleep, your blood pressure is off the charts and you’re warring within you’re self looking for a solution. I say that it is time to surrender. No, I do not mean surrender to the devil. Surrender all of your issues to Jesus. The second part of John 10:10 tells us that Jesus has come that you might have life and have it more abundantly. Jesus is the ultimate power! There is no one more powerful or mindful of you.

When you’re feeling a financial strain remember Malachi‬ ‭3:10,

“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

When it seems like your family is unraveling before your very eyes remember ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭26:3‬,

‭“Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.”

Lastly, when the devil comes against your mind think about 2 Timothy‬ ‭1:7,

“For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

God we come before you today thanking you for the reminder that you have come to give us an abundant life. Thank you for being on our side and guaranteeing us the victory! We speak peace over every situation in the mighty name of Jesus. As we are faced with battles help us to remain in your will. In Jesus’ name, Amen! Be blessed peeps!

The drought is OVER

Blog fam! Happy New Year! I have a few topics on my mind but I’ll stick to this one for now. A drought is defined as a prolonged or chronic shortage or lack of something expected or desired. I live in Texas, so I know a thing or two about droughts and the condition they leave the land and people in. The flowers lose their brilliance, springs run dry and fires tend to start with the smallest spark. Like the Earth, we need the rain or provision God offers us. Without that provision, we become dried up skeletons of our former selves. During seasons of drought the simplest task become daunting. We lose the desire to go outside or even socialize because of the conditions around us. Lately I’ve observed drought-like conditions from the people of God. Because of adverse conditions we have lost our brilliance and become dull representations of the mighty God we serve. Depending on the severity of the drought, a certain amount of rain has to fall to end it. Scattered showers won’t end a three year drought! We cannot settle for a spiritual encounter with the Lord every four to six months and expect a major shift. We go to church to get a spiritual fix but have no intention on putting in the work to grow with Christ once we leave. Once God begins to move in our lives it’s up to us to continue to seek Him.

‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:8 says, “For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”

The ball is literally in your court. When we begin to ask God to fill us we will receive! When we push things away that aren’t like God and seek him, we will find Him! When we knock on His door with our prayers he will open himself to us! God, I come to you on behalf of my readers and myself. First, I thank you for being You! I ask that you condition our hearts to receive you. We give you permission to enter the dry places in our lives and rain. No longer will we settle for scattered showers. We will seek you God knowing that your water is the only thing that will quench the thirst of our dry souls. We believe it done in Jesus’ name. Amen. When you share this with your friends and family, let them know the drought is over! Be blessed peeps!

Will it ever END?!

Blog fam! I’ve heard many people say they’re ready for 2016 to be over for various reasons. People have made the statement that this has been the worst year of their life. I don’t have that testimony but I do have a thought I want to leave with you all before the year expires. In the third chapter of Daniel we run across the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. King Nebuchadnezzar in the beginning of the story made a golden image for the people to fall down and worship when they heard the music play. Word got back to the king that these three Hebrew boys refused to worship the golden image. Nebuchadnezzar had Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego brought before him and told them if they did not bow, he’d have them thrown into a burning fiery furnace.

“And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego.” Daniel‬ ‭3:20-22

This part of the story goes to my first point, the mighty men that threw Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego into the fire died! You have faced things this year that have caused others to die or lose their grip on reality as we know it but you’re STILL here!

‭‭ “And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” Daniel‬ ‭3:23-25

Sometimes when we are in our personal fiery furnaces we are bound and don’t necessarily know what’s coming next. The amazing part of feeling like this is realizing that we aren’t in the fire alone. Jesus will step into the fire with us and free us in the midst of our furnace!

‬“And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.” Daniel‬ ‭3:27

Though the fire is hot and suffocating at times you will come out unscathed! I cannot promise that 2017 will be a bed of roses but I can say if you keep God first you’ll never be alone! Happy New Year peeps!
