Will it ever END?!

Blog fam! I’ve heard many people say they’re ready for 2016 to be over for various reasons. People have made the statement that this has been the worst year of their life. I don’t have that testimony but I do have a thought I want to leave with you all before the year expires. In the third chapter of Daniel we run across the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego. King Nebuchadnezzar in the beginning of the story made a golden image for the people to fall down and worship when they heard the music play. Word got back to the king that these three Hebrew boys refused to worship the golden image. Nebuchadnezzar had Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego brought before him and told them if they did not bow, he’d have them thrown into a burning fiery furnace.

“And he commanded the most mighty men that were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, and to cast them into the burning fiery furnace. Then these men were bound in their coats, their hosen, and their hats, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Therefore because the king’s commandment was urgent, and the furnace exceeding hot, the flame of the fire slew those men that took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego.” Daniel‬ ‭3:20-22

This part of the story goes to my first point, the mighty men that threw Shadrach, Meshach and Abed-nego into the fire died! You have faced things this year that have caused others to die or lose their grip on reality as we know it but you’re STILL here!

‭‭ “And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed–nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king was astonished, and rose up in haste, and spake, and said unto his counsellors, Did not we cast three men bound into the midst of the fire? They answered and said unto the king, True, O king. He answered and said, Lo, I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire, and they have no hurt; and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.” Daniel‬ ‭3:23-25

Sometimes when we are in our personal fiery furnaces we are bound and don’t necessarily know what’s coming next. The amazing part of feeling like this is realizing that we aren’t in the fire alone. Jesus will step into the fire with us and free us in the midst of our furnace!

‬“And the princes, governors, and captains, and the king’s counsellors, being gathered together, saw these men, upon whose bodies the fire had no power, nor was an hair of their head singed, neither were their coats changed, nor the smell of fire had passed on them.” Daniel‬ ‭3:27

Though the fire is hot and suffocating at times you will come out unscathed! I cannot promise that 2017 will be a bed of roses but I can say if you keep God first you’ll never be alone! Happy New Year peeps!

Where’s Your Hope

Blog fam! I pray all is well with you all. A lot has happened since my last post. It’s as if the nation is spinning out of control. With everything going on I began to think about hope. One definition of hope is to expect with confidence

As people we place our hope or confidence in many things. Our relationships, family, careers and politics are all things that have our hope. We confidently expect our girlfriends/boyfriends to be there when we need them, we expect family to always have our backs, we expect to get paid for the work we do and lastly we expect the government to act on our behalf. When something from the above list fails, it can send our lives into chaos. If you don’t believe me, tune into the news and watch what has happened as people have lost their hope.

The common trend in the calamity we are seeing in politics and our personal lives is a lack of hope in Jesus Christ. ‭‭Luke‬ ‭18:35-39 says,

“And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me.”

The man in this story is minding his business begging for money per his daily routine when he hears that Jesus has come to the city. Immediately he forgets that he’s a begger and realizes Jesus has everything he needs. He knew if he could get Jesus’ attention, he would be healed. He begins to cry out to Jesus.  This disturbed the people around him but he cried out louder to get the master’s attention. Unlike us, the man was not distracted by the thoughts of others. He was determined to get Jesus’ attention. In Luke‬ ‭18:40-43 Jesus responded,

“And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God.”

When this man placed all of his hope in Jesus he was healed. I encourage you to place all of your confidence in God just as this man did. Despite the naysayers cry out to Jesus! People may look at you strange but know it will not be in vain! I love you peeps! Share with your friends!!!

Do you need a heart transplant?

Blog fam! I pray all is well with you! I have an array of interests. I love researching and finding out how things work and why they work that way. I began to think about the heart. This organ is solely responsible for pumping blood throughout the rest of the body. You can live with one lung, one kidney, one leg and the list goes on and on but you can’t live without a heart. When people go into heart failure for whatever reason the push is on to find a new heart for them. Heart transplants are performed when other treatments for heart problems haven’t worked, leading to heart failure. How many of us are in spiritual heart failure but haven’t realized it? We are experiencing different levels of fatigue but continue to push forward and not seek help for the issue. We try various treatments to heal the issues to no avail. We’ve dated thinking that would strengthen our heart; we’ve become successful in our careers yet we’re still in heart failure. With every remedy we try our heart gets weaker and weaker. David said in Psalms 51:10,

“Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.”

In this instance in David’s life he’s asking God for a heart transplant. He has slept with one of his soldier’s wife and had him killed to fix the situation. Prayerfully you haven’t had anyone killed but we can all relate to David in needing a clean heart. Throughout our lives we experience things that weaken our hearts and produce a spirit that isn’t Christ like. When we surrender and ask God to help us, he begins to teach us and purify us. God will take out our battered and diseased heart and replace it with one that is wrapped in his very essence. He will replace the nasty spirit we’ve picked up along the way with a spirit of peace. God, we thank you for the knowledge we have received. We give you permission to work on our hearts. Help us to be the willing vessels you have called for. We want your will to be done in every area of our lives. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen! Be blessed peeps!

The List

Blog family! I pray all is well with all of you! We all have a checklist of things that we want to accomplish. Whether you’ve written it down or have it memorized, there is a list. I read a quote by Steven Furtick that said, “Until Jesus is enough for you, no person or thing will ever be”. Being young and career driven, we have set goals and standards for our lives. I agree that we need a general plan for our lives. The problem we face is we are resilient in our approach to check things off of our list. We go and graduate from college; check. We work and get a masters degree; check. We find that dream job making six figures a year; check. Lastly, we get married, have children and become the embodiment of the American dream; check. We raise our families to this same standard and all is well. What happens when winds and waves of life come and shake your perfectly put together list? When you arrive to work you find out your six figure salary job has started making cuts. You find out that your well put together marriage is hanging on by a thread. What do you do then? In ‭‭Matthew‬ ‭7:24-27 Jesus has this to say to the people,

“Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock. And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.”

In our search for success let’s be sure that Jesus is the foundation. We do not want to become so committed to our list that we make it our driving force. When Jesus is the focus, we can take whatever life throws at us and have the success we have worked so hard for. Be blessed!

Relationship Goals

Blog fam! I’ve avoided this topic for almost two years! I think it’s about time to address relationships! I mean the dating ones. The life isn’t life unless I have you relationships. We are living in an era where relationship goals is one of the most used hashtags on social media. Everyone wants to be the next Stephen and Ayesha Curry. I think it’s great to have positive relationship influences but we can’t lose ourselves in our search for the perfect mate. I heard a quote today that rocked me. The Prophetess said, “Don’t compromise your walk with God because of loneliness.” We as people long for companionship. Even introverts enjoy the company of another person every once in a while. I know I’ve found myself a bit anxious for Mrs. Moore lately. Expecting is one thing, but becoming anxious will lead you down an entirely different road. We often find ourselves thirsty for that relationship. We put up with so much not to be alone that we lose our walk with God. We leave his path to pursue our own. Only to get lost and caught up with someone that wasn’t meant for us. Cut the distractions! If the relationship isn’t bringing you closer to God, it’s blocking you from his presence and killing your spiritual man! Being single really is not bad. This is the best time of your life! It allows you to walk closer with God and seek his will for your life.

Matthew 6:33 says, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

Could our problem be that we are seeking the things rather than the giver? When we seek God for who he really is, he begins to manifest himself in our lives and gives us everything we need! I challenge you to begin to seek the Lord in this single season. Watch Him begin to pour into you both spiritually and naturally. Be blessed!

The Exchange

Blog fam! I pray all is well with each of you! Most of us have at least one friend we can be totally transparent with. They know some of our deepest and darkest secrets. Some of the time it’s because they were along for the ride. What would happen if that friend whom you trust betrayed it? You wake up to 50 text messages and 230 Facebook notifications all letting you know that the cat is out of the bag. Those secret moments are now out for the world to see. We would then consider that friend to be a Judas. Matthew‬ ‭26:14-16 says,

Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

Judas was there throughout the ministry of Jesus. He had a front row seat when Jesus blessed the two fish and five loaves of bread that fed 5,000 men; yet he still betrayed his friend Jesus. Why? His greed took over. Aren’t we like Judas at times?! Our greed or lust overtakes us. We kiss Jesus with our words of adoration Sunday after Sunday only to sell him out when lust creeps on the scene. One of my friends said something that I’m going to use and tweak. Once we really fall in love with Jesus, we won’t have to worry about giving in to sin. We will keep His commandments because we understand the price that he paid for us. My challenge to you as well as myself is to be the friend to Jesus that he is to us.

A Little of This…A Little of That

Blog family! It’s been entirely too long since I’ve posted so let’s get to it! The purpose of Chex Mix is to combine some of your favorite individual snacks into a colossal bag of of treats. If you’re anything like me, you go through the bag, pick out what you want and leave the rest. I have to admit that this next statement is one of the hardest things I’ve come to realize. We or I since I’m feeling transparent treat God like a bag of Chex Mix. We are quick to use those convenient scriptures to boost our self confidence. A prime example is Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” Do not get me wrong, this is absolutely true. The problem I’ve faced is when scriptures get personal. 1 Peter‬ ‭1:16 says, “Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.” This means there is a lifestyle that I have to live. I can’t do things that are contrary to what God’s word says. Honestly, I’ve been guilty of picking and choosing which scriptures to live by. I’ll pick out what I deem necessary for the moment and leave the rest for later. If I am really going to grow on my relationship with Christ, I have to eat the entire bag. There are pieces that I’d rather leave in the bag but to get to where God has called me I have to suck it up and keep moving. It’s time to be all in! Let’s learn from our past and push forward. No longer will we eat the pieces that appeal to us but now we will take it all in. Be encouraged blog family!
